BARNEYS TEAMS Sexy Clubwear WITH SEYMOUR: Stephanie Seymour is about to up her fashion status beyond supermodel to add lingerie entrepreneur.

As an avid collector of vintage fashion, Seymour said she has become very inspired by the workmanship of those historic pieces. Aware that the market was lacking in comparable quality designs, she said, I feel that dressing for bed is a lost art form. It's a ritual I find important in my own life.

In 2011, Paul and Seymour first teamed up, sharing an interest and appreciation for vintage fashion and couture craftsmanship. Their 18-piece lingerie collection will retail from $200 to $950 with the average item retailing between $500 and $600, Paul said.

Intentionally planned to launch before Valentine's Day, wholesale swimwear Raven Sparrow will be sold at Barneys Madison Avenue store and its Beverly Hills location, as well as the retailer's e-commerce site. Raven Sparrow expects to unveil its own site in the next week or so, but e-commerce will be added at a later date, Paul said. With their launch party set for the first night of New York Fashion Week, they are still figuring out the final guest list, she added.

The event will also hold various seminars and conferences. The fair will be accelerator of networking opportunities, which will expand and strengthen network with the industry professionals.

The 4th edition of Interfeel’ Awards, a selection of worldwide recognised professional of the intimates, swimwear and sportswear industry, will reward the know-how and collections of Interfiliere Shanghai exhibitors. Six special Interfeel' awards will be given to exhibitors from various sectors including lace, embroidery, accessories, sustainable, shapeletic and Engeniring Oui-Tech (bonding, moulding). 


There is an oft-overlooked sweet spot in fashion, wholesale halloween costumes right between budget and luxury offerings, that is fertile ground if you know what to sow.

This was the logic of Sydney-based wholesale swimwear Marie Savvas for her new lingerie brand, Palindrome a fashion-driven line of luxurious-looking underthings that wouldn t break the bank. Her logic has paid off. It s been on sale only since February, but online sales are already well exceeding expectations, and it has become one of the fastest-growing brands in the designer segment of Myer s intimate apparel business, where it is stocked in five stores, with plans to expand its reach in the coming year.

The middle price bracket has been forgotten about, swimwear manufacturers Savvas says. I wanted Palindrome to be an affordable brand but I wasn t going to be competing on price (for the sake of quality). Price aside, there was another area in which Savvas felt she could excel: style. A lot of fashion brands (moving into lingerie) don t really have the experience behind them to put together a great- fitting product, or conversely, where the fit is great the product is basic. I started thinking there was a possibility to really do something here. Her 20-year background in the lingerie industry meant she could pull off both: she cut her technical teeth at brands such as Formfit and Playtex the least glamorous thing I could be doing, but in hindsight an amazing experience followed by stints designing and buying for Bras N Things and then designing for the more glamorous Australian label Pleasure State.

Cynthia Brock, category manager intimates at Myer, believes the fashion angle sets Palindrome apart: Marie s lingerie product is famous for working with digital prints, with lovely detailing, including lace inserts and panelling, cut-out details, so it s really quite different to a lot of the other more mainstream fashion brands we have on the floor. In addition to bras and knickers, Savvas also produces a small line of lounge wear and special occasion lingerie, including baby-doll styles, which are among her bestsellers.

The starting point for Palindrome was a lion print she found, an unusual kick-off for a lingerie brand. Print in lingerie is a touchy subject people are doing spots, stripes, mumsy florals, whereas swimwear is looking amazing when it comes to prints. I thought I could totally own this space. Currently lingerie trends are a complete reversal of those just a few years ago. It was previously all about super padding in bras and really low-rider briefs, says Savvas. Now it s all about these soft-cup shapes in bras and the maxi brief. They are so comfortable.

To me these are the two key pieces of intimates that have finally come of age. Being aware of fashion is so important, and understanding how that works in relation to what is worn underneath.

If you look at the types of shapes in apparel, nobody wants to have the push-up bra now, it s more about a flat-chested silhouette. We re seeing clothing with a lot of cut-out backs, low-cut armholes, and you don t want to see a traditional bra underneath, which is why little soft bras are working so well at the moment.

And with waisted pants and skirts becoming more and more prominent each season, it s natural that we start seeing that reflected in the maxi briefs.

There are other advantages, too. People have become accustomed to bigger shaped knickers because shapewear has had such massive growth in intimates industry. The great thing about the maxi brief is that having the wider side seam means more smoothing out. Even though it s not shapewear, it s quite flattering.

Savvas is poised should trends shift again soon. I ve done a hi-kini for next season to just push it that little bit further that Wonder Woman leg shape. It s really flattering.
